Wii Tennis

When you ask the average Wii player what is their favourite party game then Wii Sports is usually top, or very near the top of their list. When you delve into this deeper the tennis game is one of the best. Although this simple tennis game is fantastic on the Wii, there are several flaws. Firstly is it is perhaps too cartoonie, secondly it is unrealistic and thirdly and perhaps most importantly it is too easy. The team who serves first has such an advantage that the majority of times they will easily win.

Tennis is a game ideally suited to the Wii’s unique control system which anyone can pick up and play and there have been a few tennis games on the Wii. We had Sega Superstars Tennis which although passable was hardly a successful tennis game on the Wii. This was followed by Topspin 3 which although offered more realism, sadly failed to deliver on what could have been a great game.

Mario Power Tennis was the next Tennis game on the Wii to emerge and although it is a great game, it has to be said that it is more aimed at the younger market.

Thankfully this has now changed with the release of two great new tennis games EA’s Grand Slam Tennis and Sega’s Virtual Tennis.
